Puffin Podcast (Amy) Unfortunately, I couldn't figure out how to get the embed code from this website. This is a podcast called Science on the Wild Side and it's hosted by a man named Rick. Each podcast (there are 98 of them total and you can find them here) highlights a science topic or animal and provides facts for students listening. At the end of each podcast there is a song written by Rick about the subject of the podcast. I chose the one above because it relates to an animal we study in 4th grade, the Puffins. I had a difficult time finding a decent podcast that I thought would be appropriate, engaging, and informative for 4th grade students. I finally stumbled across this man's website. He speaks a little fast and has a thick southern accent, but I think his podcast would be usable in the classroom to give students additional information about puffins.

I also couldn't get the embed code so this is the link. This podcast is from a site called Podcasts About Social Studies. This site gives transcripts as well as the podcasts. The one I linked above is an interview with Edye Morris-Bryant, the head of the North Carolina Council for Social Studies. He discusses strategies to improve social study instruction.
Superman Radio Broadcast (Nancy)
I could not find the embed code either. I love listening to stories read aloud. This podcast takes you back in time to the 1940s when radio plays were a popular form of entertainment. This is the original Superman: Episode 1 radio play. Todays kids can't imagine the world without their video games, TVs, DVD players, . . . etc. This podcast could take them back in history to a time when sitting around the radio was entertainment. They would be able to use their imagination and visualize in their minds what is happening in the story rather than watching the director's version.
News in slow spanish. (Lorna)
If you want to learn Spanish then News in slow Spanish is the way to go. I found this podcast that tells news around the world and it would be a useful resource to teach the students Spanish as a second language. As a teacher I found that the Spanish language that it was used in the podcast it slowly spoken and easy to understand for beginner Spanish learners. I enclose a hyperlink that could bring you straight to the download of the file, enjoy. “Disfrutenlo!” MP3 DownloadItunes Download

(Homework Assignment 2.b)
(Amy) This is my mp3 of The Giving Tree by Shel Silverstein. I chose to podcast this story since I'll be reading and using the story to discuss good reader strategies this week in summer school. I tried to use aviary.com to record the podcast, however, it only allowed me to record up to 2 minutes before it shut off. I ended up using garageband on my Mac instead. The only problem with this was when it came time to embed the podcast I couldn't do it. I uploaded it as a file instead. I think this is going to cause it to play very slowly, but that was the only way I could figure it out.
(Nancy and Amy)
This mp3 was created by Amy and me using Garageband. We chose a chapter from Sideways Stories from Wayside School by Louis Sachar called "Paul". We added music and special effects as well. Enjoy!
(Lorna)
This mp3 was created by Lona using Aviary. I used book called "Cuenta Cuentos" Spanish short stories. First story is about the "La Liebre y la Tortuga" and the second story is the first part of "El Orgro del Bosque" I also added music in the background to go along with the story. "Disfrutenlo!".
This is a mp3 of the story Big Al by Andrew Clements. It's a great book tot each a lesson on accepting others, no matter their differences. It's a great picture book that's full of beautiful illustrations. Enjoy! (No background music on this one! Just my own voice!)
